KNIGHTS OF THUNDER 360 SPRINT CARS HEAD BACK TO BRIGHTON

By Tommy Goudge (July 23, 2021) – The Pinty’s Knights of Thunder 360 Sprint Car series season is set to continue this Saturday, July 24 at Brighton Speedway!

Plenty of action is expected at the racy one-third mile track as drivers are ready to kick off a busy stretch of the schedule which will see them competing in five events in the next three weeks. The track is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, approximately 90 minutes east of Toronto and 30 minutes west of Belleville. Anticipation is high among teams and fans alike; Brighton hasn’t hosted a Sprint Car event in nearly two years, and fans were in the stands for the first time since 2019 when rain arrived and washed out the July 3 KoT event.

Jordan Poirier enters the weekend as the championship points leader, while Jim Huppunen, Mack DeMan, Josh Hansen, and Cory Turner are in the top five thanks to strong starts to their seasons two weeks ago. Three drivers have Brighton wins on their resumes; local favourite Chris Jones has six wins at Brighton, while Cory Turner has four, and Ryan Turner has one.

THEY SAID IT
Jordan Poirier will be racing at Brighton for the first time on Saturday. The driver from Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil, Quebec won the opening round of the Knights of Thunder season on July 10 at Merrittville Speedway. Meanwhile, Chris Jones will make a much shorter trip to Brighton from Picton, Ontario and has many races under his belt at the Northumberland County oval, including six wins. Here are their thoughts heading into Saturday’s race:

Poirier – “When we got rained out last time it was the first time I was seeing the track at all. I’m excited and anxious at the same time. We put the bar high last week, and we want to do good again Saturday.”

Jones – “Brighton is a fun little place. It’s really nice to race at a place that’s only 35 minutes from home rather than three to four hours, and it’s always nice to recognize most of the faces in the crowd and to have plenty of them cheering me on.”
