PORT COLBORNE, Ont. (October 1, 2021) – Jordan Poirier’s dominance of Humberstone Speedway continued on Friday night as the Quebec driver won the Pinty’s Knights of Thunder 360 Sprint Car series A-Main on night one of The Fall Classic.
Ryan Turner and Jim Huppunen entered the final weekend of the 2021 season as Poirier’s closest challengers for the 2021 championship. Turner and Huppunen drew front row starting positions for the 25 lap A-Main, while Poirier started in row four. Turner took the early lead, while Poirier made a beeline to the front.
Only one lap was completed before DJ Christie spun in turn three; Turner kept the lead on the restart, while Poirier restarted fourth behind Huppunen and Jamie Turner. Ryan Turner opened a gap when the race restarted, but Poirier began to eat into that advantage after moving to second on lap five. Row ten starter Cory Turner was also advancing through the field early in the race, and moved past Huppunen for the fifth spot on lap nine.
Poirier caught Turner just before the halfway point of the race as both began to encounter traffic. A spirited joust ensued as the two championship contenders traded the lead several times in heavy traffic. Poirier eventually prevailed and went on to claim his seventh win of the season and fourth at Humberstone.
Ryan Turner had trouble getting around some of the lapped cars and settled for the runner-up spot. Cory Turner finished third, followed by Jamie Turner, Josh Hansen, Liam Martin, Travis Cunningham, Jim Huppunen, DJ Christie, and Mikey Kruchka. Heat race wins were claimed by Liam Martin, DJ Christie, and Aaron Turkey, each earning $100 from the Friday Night Thunder TV crew.
The Pinty’s Knights of Thunder series will next be in action on Friday, October 2 at Humberstone Speedway. Visit www.knightsofthunder.com for more information.
